Fife Poorhouse Records
The links detailed below are from the excellent Workhouse website. Please visit this information packed site, well worth a visit.
This site gives details from workhouses all over the UK.
The Workhouse evokes the grim Victorian world of Oliver Twist, but its story is a fascinating mix of social history, politics, economics and architecture.
There were three workhouses in Fife:
Dunfermline Combination was on the north side of Cemetery Road (now Leys Park Road).
Dysart Combination was actually in the village of Thornton.
Kirkcaldy Combination all my older readers will remember Abden Home which was on the left after going under Invertiel railway bridge on the way to Kinghorn, this is where the workhouse was.
